My Health, Short and Sweet

The topic at hand: my health. I meant to write about this, but I never got around to it. I figured that the contents of this particular post may have been TMI (too much information) for my readers. But here is the short abridged version: I got a colonoscopy done.
The preparation for it was worse than the actual procedure. The day before the procedure, I could only consume liquids that did not contain red, orange, or purple dye. Green jello was my food of choice. At 5pm, I had to drink a disgusting concoction that completely "cleaned me out." I had to drink another batch of the concoction at 2 in the morning. I was more annoyed than anything because I had to get up every 10 minutes. Needless to say, I never went to sleep that night. When 5am rolled around, I got up, showered, packed my hospital bag, grabbed mom, and walked out the door. They took me to the back, took my vitals, and before long, I was in the operating room.

I have never been "put under." I was an anesthesia virgin. The anesthesiologist assured me that she would be right by my side the entire time. She told me that she would give me the anesthesia in doses. The first dosage was just enough to relax me. After about 1 minute, I felt like I was losing control. It felt like I had taken a drug! I asked the woman, "am I supposed to feel this way?" I was slowly losing control and I didn't like it. Finally, I gave in to the sensation and just laid there. When the doctor entered the room, she gave me the second dosage while asking me questions like, "Your name is N.D.R?" I replied, "yes." "Your birthday is January 14?" I replied, "yes." She asked me one last question and the next thing I remember is hearing, "Natasha?" I woke up and was back in the room that I started in.

I felt awesome! LOL!! There was no pain; no indication that someone was, well, you know.... I went home with mommy and fell asleep on the couch watching Tyler Perry's, "Why Did I Get Married Too?" It was an awesome day.
*********************************************************************************
Yesterday, I had my two week follow-up. The nurse weighed me and to my surprise, I have gained 5 pounds. This is a shock to me because I haven't been able to keep THREE pounds on since my junior year of college. Praise Him! LOL!

The results of my colonoscopy showed that I have slight IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). She likened it to a mild case of Colitis. As I suspected, I will need to change my eating habits. She also prescribed me medication to help with the inflammation.

I have to admit that I am truly thankful that they found something. I thank God that there is a definite cause to the issues that I have been having with my digestive system. And I thank him because he prepared me for this change in my diet. Right before my colonoscopy, he showed me the Daniel Fast. It's basically a vegan fast. It wasn't easy because I had to cut out A LOT of foods that I eat everyday. I couldn't have sugar, seafood, meat, dairy products, juice, tea, or coffee. It was tough. But I have to admit that I've never felt so good on the inside. (I'll just leave it at that to avoid TMI) hehe.....

It's important to know that God wants us to prosper in  health as well as financially and emotionally. He wants us to be healthy. He is getting me on the right track in all areas of my life. I love that guy. He is awesome. I give him the glory in every area of my life. Brian Courtney Wilson said, "everytime we shine You're there." He ain't never lied.

Being the researcher that I am, I will be on a quest to find out all I can about IBD as well as developing a healthier lifestyle.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves - mind, body, and soul. Remember to keep God first in the process.

That's all for now!

You're Silly! I went to a technology workshop on Saturday and one of our projects was to create a (work-related) blog, so now I have a google acct!!!! Yeah ME!! LOL!
But, yeah those issues do run in our family...along with a plethera of others...so I think if we only get by with the stomach issues then we're doing GREAT!!! LOL!

Thanks for posting this! I've been lurking on your site for a while. I think this is my first comment. lol anyway, I'm a nursing student and a really giving person. It's hard for me to take time and care for myself. I learned my lesson last week. I almost fainted on the floor cuz I decided to skip breakfast and spend more time with the patients. God is great! Keep taking care of yourself
